Review of La Haine (1995) by Anthony W — 30 Sep 2008
One of the best films I have seen in a long time. From what I've seen, this is the only diamond in the shit pile that is Mathieu Kassovitz's directing career. I love the metaphor of the falling man used throught the film to express how things never happen the way you plan them.
The riot footage at the beginning was amazingly shot, regardless of it was real or fictional. As for the casting, it was perfect especially with the ever spectacular Vincent Cassel. The cinematography of the film was some of the best I have seen, and I don't understand why Kassovitz didn't use this style in his other films.
I didn't see the similiarity between Taxi Driver and this that many people seem to think there is other than the bathroom scene near the beginning.
