Review of La Haine (1995) by Patrick D — 05 Feb 2009
Brutal and unrelenting, La Haine is the only foreign gang film I hold above City of God, high above. The three main actors perfectly portray three different facets of urban youth, one being black, another white, and the third middle eastern.
Throughout the film, the viewer is introduced to the stark realities of gang life, and how some people just want to be left alone. The cops are the antagonists in this film, which is unusual, and many of the cinematographic techniques used are unearthly, like the breakdance scene and the ending, which is perfect and tragic just the same.
