Review of La Haine (1995) by Sean C — 16 May 2009
Let the Right One In is a unique vampire film but simply calling it a vampire movie is a knock against it. In truth its a story about Oskar's relationships; relationships with his parents, his classmates, and the new girl, Eli, who justed moved in across from him. Let the Right One In is indeed a grim and occassionally violent movie however the violence isn't excessive. The director, Tomas Alfredson, frames the scenes is such a way that you see just enough of the action and the result without the violence being overdone. One of my favorite scenes being when a group of bullies force Oskar to hold his breath for three minutes while he is swimming in the pool.
Underworld: Rise of the Lycans was, as I expected, not very good. Take a pass on this one.
Taken was actually pretty entertaining. Liam Neeson is a badass and surprisingly most of the events that take place are believable and not completely over the top.
