Immediately after seeing this movie, I was thoroughly impressed. After letting it sit in my mind for a little while, I realized I was blown away. I think the reason it took some time to sink in was because, socio-economically speaking, I have nothing in common with these boys and their trials.

2011 has been the year of the riot/protest which makes this movie feel more relevant and it's message immortal. I feel like right now the whole world is crying out in unison out of anger and passion, finally allowing our voices to be heard.

At the time I am writing this review many things are happening in this world, the 99% movement has spread throughout the entire world in an effort to end financial disparity between the middle class and the ultra rich, The rebel forces of Libya have just killed Muammar Gaddafi, their corrupt and violent dictator of 42 years, and President Barak Obama has announced that the undeniably futile war in Iraq that has lasted for nearly a decade will end this year.

The world is changing and the message of La Haine has gone from depressing and informative to inspirational and profound. The anguish of the three boys and their rage against the brutal police force and the higher ups who symbolize their lack of power or social mobility has never been more poignant.

The look and pacing of the movie is what makes it more hip and fun but the character development is what seals the deal. You don't initially sympathize with the boys but once you get to know them, it's apparent that they are truly good people who have been damned to a life of violence and aggression because of society and the indifference and contempt we have for these people.

A Modern Masterpiece.
