Review of La Dolce Vita (1960) by Gonzalo S — 07 Jul 2008
I want to be Marcello, and that is just way depressing considering how sad and empty his life is.
But that is exactly why La Dolce Vita is so damn good. It pries away its characters' indulgences and vanities until it finds the haunting loneliness that lies at the center of every crazy night on the town. Weirdly it's almost like a post-war Italian version of the Great Gatsby, but with less self-aware characters.
