Review of La Dolce Vita (1960) by Tishka F — 09 Sep 2010
An absolutely stunning, fascinating, and sexy foreign film, my first one that I have seen from Fellini's collection. The dialogue in Italian is fiercely conversed between the cast members and the addition of English within the film adds to the interest.
The lighting at times is amazing and the costumes and performances are truly magnificent. You can also see what a loser Mastroianni's character is, staying up at all hours partying and making love to every female he sees, while hooked on his booze and tabacco.
Probably, trying to relive his youth. The film is eerily powerful, respected by the many critics from the time of release to today. It is truly a spectacular film and probably the best foreign film I ever have seen, maybe the best out Italy.
One of three masterpieces released from 1960: the other two being The Apartment and Psycho. I want to experience more of Felini's work.
