Review of La Dolce Vita (1960) by Jesús G — 15 Apr 2011
This movie was flawless and beautifully crafted. Yeah, it's three hours long, but it's a must-see. It's a very non-linear, almost plot-less view at the fancy and aristocratic society built up on the ruins of post-war Italy. My favorite things in this movie were Steiner's monologue about his situation in life, the gracious and subtle camera movement, the recurring juxtaposition of religious elements with the immorality permeating Marcello's life, and the shameless depravity of the almost-orgy that took place at the end.
After "8 1/2" I got a first impression of Fellini as being a dull hipster filmmaker, but this piece of art has redeemed my view of him.
