Review of La Bare (2014) by Graham B — 15 Dec 2014
Joe Manganiello takes inspiration from his very supporting act in Magic Mike and takes a look behind scenes at the Texas male strip club La Bare.
The film introduces all the characters of the club's staff, each having their own story. Two thirds of the way it takes a sudden tangent of a dancer who was murdered outside the club, with a bit about the court case.
Sadly even this tangent couldn't save this very dull film. It is quite an effort to make a dull film about male strippers (particularly for this viewer) but Manganiello managed this feat spectacularly.
Never really addresses certain factors.
The dancers aren't allowed to drink or do drugs, so none of that interest. The lead guy Randy "Master Blaster" is lauded despite being well past it. It goes into his facial cosmetic enhancement regime and does some focus on his terrible saggy body, but never addresses his age or the fact that his saggy flesh is quite a nasty sight.
There is no gay factor in this film. There is not much of what they do after this in the film.
Basically this just acts as an advert for La Bare. Not much else. Poor show. Joe you aren't a great actor. You are an even worse director. You should have been a face in this doc at least.
