Review of Kwaidan (1965) by Ben W — 22 Nov 2009
An amazingly visual series of 4 ghost stories taken from japanese mythology. its long, but so many of the shots are so beautiful, kobayashi pulled from his classical training as a painter to do many of the backdrops and other shots for the film.
the colors are incredible, the performances are great, and the stories, while spare, are haunting (pardon the pun) and beautiful. some are slightly better than others, but I found things to appreciate about all of them.
an incredible film.
