Review of Kwaidan (1965) by Paul J — 06 Aug 2010
The supernatural has rarely been portrayed as artistically superb. Four short stories done to perfection. Slow, meditative and haunting. The imagery is mind-blowing. Takemitsu's score is impeccable.
It's amazing to see horror done in such a professional and accomplished manner. The Black Hair is my favorite but Cup of Tea is strangely compelling. Is it about repressed homosexuality? The influence of Kobayashi's masterpiece is far-reaching.
Even Kurosawa himself borrows from this masterpiece.
