Review of Kurbaan (2009) by Asif K — 10 Jul 2010
I didn't know what the premise of this film was when I was going into it. I rather enjoyed the beginning, the move to New York, meeting the neighbors and the panicked muslim wife...at this time I was still hopeful for a good flick.
.perhaps a social commentary on the mindset of a 'good normal muslim' and the extremist mindset or exploring muslim life in american and different viewpoints etc etc...but then the 'twist' happened and the movie switched from drama to thriller/action.
..and from decent to..what the fuck is this shit? After the twist, the story was a confused mess and was a complete chore to watch. I don't understand why they choose to take this direction. I do wanna say the acting was good, especially that of Vivek Oberoi but the ridiculous plot destroys any redeeming qualities this film has had.
