Review of Kung Fu Panda (2008) by Nathan N — 29 Sep 2012
Here's one of the few summer movies that succeeds because it's exactly what it should be: fun! Set in the Valley of Peace in China, Po ( Jack Black) is a fat and lazy panda that works for his father's restaurant.
Though he spends his days eating and serving noodles, Po spends his nights dreaming of kung fu and the Legendary Furious Five. After alarming news that Tia Lung, the most dangerous threat the valley has ever seen is escaped from prison the time has come to find the dragon warrior, protector of all.
Unwittingly Po finds that he's been picked by mistake and now must save the valley from this evil threat. I can think of no one better than Jack Black to personify THE big fat panda. The film is almost a perfect balance of action and comedy that will make you want to sit back and watch it again as soon as the credits roll.
This is the best animated movie of the summer and has set the bar high for next weeks Pixar release WALL-E. And though there is a charge for this awesomeness it's well worth the price of admission.
