Review of Kung Fu Panda (2008) by Johnathon W — 29 Jan 2016
Dreamworks finest animated movie after "How to Train Your Dragon", thanks to a great vocal cast, gorgeous animation and a story that pays homage to the great kung fun films of the past. Jack Black is instantly likable as Po, whose love of kung fu is surpassed only by how bad he is at it.
He has great interplay with Dustin Hoffman as Shi Fu, the master who must teach Po. and there scenes are the funniest (Hoffman's frustration in his voice is hilarious). The rest of the cast is equally excellent, particularly Ian McShane as Tai Lung, who makes for a menacing villain.
The story itself is fun but simple, paying great homage to past kung fu movies while keeping the humor timeless (unlike "Shrek", which has aged badly). Plus, the action scenes are second to none.
A kids film that adults will enjoy as well.
