Review of Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter (2014) by Oscar R — 25 Apr 2015
Based on the urban legend of a Woman that after watching the movie "Fargo, embarks on a hunt to find the money that one of the characters hid in Coen brothers' film. "Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter"is an amazing visual journey; full of powerful and emotional images.
The Oscar nominated Rinko Kikuchi gives a terrific performance - with very few dialogue. Its always fun to catch some of references to the Coen brothers' films - like the rabbit that looks too much like the cat of "Inside Llewyn Davis".
At the very end, the film loses its pace; the story drags a bit and one of the key plot point of the closure feels weak and ambiguous - it could have been emotionally stronger and more cinematic; the built up was great, but not the payoff.
A very entertaining ride and a visual delight.
