Review of Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter (2014) by Michael D — 03 Nov 2015
A Coenesque offshoot of one of the elements of Fargo, combined with an actual news story of the discovery of a dead Asian girl found in the North Dakota woods.
Kumiko, an oddly attractive 'Office Lady' goes on a fantasy quest to find the buried treasure buried by Steve Buscemi's character in Fargo.
Refusing to believe the story is fiction, as it is declared to be true as Fargo begins, her quest goes on until she reaches her goal. Also leaving the viewer to determine if it is the result of exposure, hunger, and hallucination, or a dream realized.
Oddly entertaining. But sad if you consider the actual story it was loosely based on; a short documentary 'This is a True Story'.
