Review of Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter (2014) by Tor M — 30 Oct 2015
A Japanese lady - she looks 16 but she's really in her late 20's, got a solid plan. She is going to find the treasure that the "Fargo"-character that Steve Buscemi played buried in snow in the mentioned film. She hates her job and her family, she has no friends. She cares for a little rabbit, but that's about it. She seem like a lonely girl that struggles with her mental state among other things. Her plan is the only thing that matters.
This is a great plot. Original and very refreshing! It's based on true events too, that's pretty interesting, even if there never was a treasure hunt going on in the real life story. It looks nice and it got some superb moments. It forces me to hang on to it as we are in for a ride. "The Octopus Project" lifts the film with their nice, experimental instrumentals that are layed over the shots.
Entertaining film, driven by the very interesting lead. Great acted, lovely shot - spiced with humour and weirdness. It's close to be totally solid and superb, but the true emotions stays out and I feel left out from some mysteries that I really want to know more about.
8 out of 10 "95" pages.
