Review of Kubo and the Two Strings (2016) by Wilman A — 18 Mar 2017

When I first saw the trailer for "Kubo and the Two Strings", I didn't want to see it because stop-motion animation usually freaks me out. (If you've seen the movie "Coraline", hopefully you understand why.

) This movie made me realize that I may have been missing out by skipping all the stop-motion classics of recent years. First of all, the animation itself was fantastic. The stop-motion mixed perfectly with the CG and it just looked awesome.

However, just like a great Pixar movie, "Kubo" also had a great story to go along with its luscious animation. As the movie went along, I started to like the characters more and more despite my best intentions to not got to attached to a children's movie.

But as the end approached, I couldn't help but get attached. And while I hate to admit it, I may have teared up just a little bit. Furthermore, Kubo managed to be an incredibly fun movie as well as being emotionally relevant.

There are multiple fast and energetic action scenes interspersed throughout the film and they are made even better by the movie's fun characters. Especially Mathew McConahey's character, Beetle, who kept cracking me up.

Speaking of cracking me up, "Kubo" had a funny and inventive script that kept me entertained throughout. Finally, this movie did not end how I expected it to, which made it even better. I honestly can't believe how much I liked this movie.

I seriously recommend it. I know it's a kid's movie, but it's a kid's movie with a great cast, a great script, a great story, and a great message that should stick with people of all ages.
