Review of Kubo and the Two Strings (2016) by Jenny W — 10 Sep 2016
Well this was a very good movie it definitely needed a bit more storyline/plot. It took me back to the visually appealing doll animations of Tim Burton as well as having a very nice Adventure thrown in with enough adult themes to keep even me entertained. There is NOTHING wrong with the animation, but the plot falls short every time there is a twist reveal, they are little to easy to guess. It can get a bit repetitive and dull in some parts, which is a real shame with the animation they have to work with. It starts of very fast pace, slow, fast pace slow, and so on. This would work in there was more of a build of suspense, but the fight scenes are so COOL, I found myself at the edge of my seat when the sisters flew in. Now, let's talk voice acting, a lot of people will not agree, but I like monkey's voice. Before you disagree, hear me out, alright? The voice they pick for her is generic, yes, but it sounds warm and calm like a mother's should. It's so normal to the point that it just kind of works, for me at least. Think of your mom's voice for just a moment, it's warm and welcoming, right? To some degree it should be.
Long story short without spoilers, I like it, not love, but like. It's worth a watch.
