Review of Krisha (2016) by Will H — 10 Apr 2016
Well, I know most movie buffs love to see young producers/directors experiment, and so we see all of those positive reviews. They seem to forget the purpose of film making however, which is to tell a story worth telling.
The problem with Krisha is that the story could be told in five minutes, and is not uncommon or exceptional. Most families have someone like Krisha, and however sad and confusing it may be to face her or him at family gatherings, it is not worthwhile as a story.
I want to say to Trey, "So what?" This film seems pathetically self indulgent and screams, "See, I am important". No redemption, no inspiration, no entertainment. Pointless piece of self indulgence, in the same way giving all of ones attention to the alcoholic/addict is a pointless exercise that helps no one.
Trey apparently needs some growing up to have something original, and important to say. Observation of misery and discomfort is not enough.
