Review of Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) by Eric R — 28 Jul 2011
One night at work, a successful advertising exec, Kramer, learns that he is next in line for a major promotion at his company. He returns home to tell his wife the good news only to find that she is leaving him because he is never around.
This leaves the work obsessed man in charge of taking care of his child. The film chronicles this man as he learns how to properly take care of his child and the ensuing court battle which ensues for custody of the child.
The film really does a great job at commenting on the social gender archetypes which exist between men and women. Dustin Hoffman is great as the father who has to learn how to take on a nurturing role of his young son.
The other real standout is how strong of an actor Justin Henry was as the little boy. Meryl Streep was good but she did NOT deserve to win Best Supporting Actress.. she is barely in the movie and really doesn't do all that much.
