Review of Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) by Immanuel C — 24 Aug 2017
Director Robert Benton took a very ordinary storyline and turned it into an extraordinary film. There were several transitional shots that really grabbed my attention, such as the reaction on Margaret's face when Ted asks her how much courage it takes for a mother to "walk out on her child," Joanna watching Ted from inside the coffee shop, and Margaret weeping outside Ted's apartment when she finds out that he lost the custody battle.
I was also drawn into the two courtroom scenes; the cross-examinations of Ted, Joanna, and Margaret were intense! Dustin Hoffman, Meryl Streep, and Jane Alexander all had strong performances. This was certainly deserving of its Best Picture win.
