Review of Kontroll (2003) by Christopher P — 11 Feb 2008
After seeing Nimrod Antal's newest film, Vacancy (and enjoying it fully), I decided to go back and check out his award winning Hungarian directorial debut... Kontroll. It's very reminiscent of Luc Besson's Subway in the way that it's sort of a series of vignettes involving the main characters who are ticket checkers in the Hungarian subway system.
In the end however, the individual plots from those vignettes combine for the finale... which is intense and while not totally satisfying, makes one think and use his imagination as to what is really going on.
The characters are great, as is the acting and script. The direction is spot on for the most part, and the strange electronic music played throughout the whole film is interesting and somewhat catchy.
I really enjoyed this flick, and I look forward to Nimrod's next film.
