Review of Kontroll (2003) by Josh M — 16 Jul 2010
This is a Hungarian film, from the director that brought us Predators and Vacancy. It centres around a group of ticket-inspectors working on the Budapest Metro. They get into various scrapes and meet some unusual characters - one of which is a serial killer who pushes his victims under the trains.
It's a comedy-thriller; and while it is both funny and tense, I feel that it is actually quite disjointed, and would perhaps have worked better for me if it was just a straight thriller. I was also a little confused by the plot development at times.
However, the actors are excellent - the lead actor is particularly impressive - and I really enjoyed the various weird and wonderful characters. The romantic sub-plot is also very well-written and performed.
I would not urge anyone to actively seek this film out; however if you do come across it, it's worth a look.
