Review of Kong: Skull Island (2017) by Li Hui C — 19 Jul 2017
"Kong: Skull Island - is a monster film that doesn't spoon feed you into submission. It grabs you by the neck and makes you finish without any chance for air. It's pure adrenaline from the start to the finish. However, it sacrifices lots of dramatic tension especially since you don't develop a serious commitment to any of the characters involved regardless if there are central characters. Most of the side extras gets eaten alive, burned to death, ripped apart, speared, sliced in half, and slowly but gradually, the body count increases, one by one. In fact, one particular side character gets more screen time then most in prompting me to suggest that he's a central character because the camera followed him as he ventured alone. Of course, with a film that lacks tension, suspense or even any emotional weight, he gets eaten by the films' real antagonist. His whole storyline or significance is completely forgotten by the end of the film and yet I wondered why.
To summarize my review, it's watchable popcorn flick and the pacing doesn't let up but with that being said, you don't give a shit about the film afterwards because there's no weight or level of importance. Just another monster flick that I probably will not recommend to anyone; not because the film is godawful in anyway, it's just not essential (Must-See) to watch it.".
