Review of Kon-Tiki (2012) by Scott A — 15 Jun 2013
I really thought this would be a great adventure film, and since there are only SIX guys on this raft, I figured we'd get a lot of great character moments and it would be a snap for the filmmakers to get us invested in six characters. WRONG.
I can say the score is amazing, and the camera work is great too. The sharks and whales all look fantastic...if they were CGI. The ocean serves as a great background too.
But seriously, besides the lead guy with crazy blue eyes and the fat refrigerator salesman, it was hard to know who was who most of the time: especially after they all started growing crazy beards. We really don't get to know anything about these characters and since this journey took them 101 days, you'd think you could feel how close they became in the end, but you never do. This is just awful in my opinion, as this is a must when you have such a small cast.
And since you don;t care about any of the characters, the film seems boring. Sure it's nice to look at, but it needed some heart.
