Judd Apatow has, these past few years, produced a considerable library of films. Besides Knocked Up (2007), which Apatow directed, wrote, and co-produced, he's recently produced Superbad (2007), Walk Hard (2007), Talladega Nights (2006), The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005), and Anchorman (2004). Apatow has the knack for finding, and sometimes even writing, great scripts, mixing toilet humor and weightier topics with relative ease. And the proof is in the pudding. His comedies are funny.

Knocked Up serves up a perfect mixture of comedy that appeals to both men and women. The story starts with a one night stand between Ben Stone, an underachieving stoner played to perfection by Seth Rogen, and Alison Scott, an up-and-coming television personality played equally well by Katherine Heigl. An unexpected pregnancy resulting from their union throws this unlikely pair into each other?s lives, where they are suddenly expected to struggle with one another?s oil-and-water lifestyles. Ben lives the college bachelor lifestyle, sans college, with several driftless roommates whom you would never want to become, but would always love to hang out with. Alison lives with her nosey sister (well-acted by Leslie Mann) and her stepbrother, Pete (played by Paul Rudd, who seems to have been born to be in films like this). The cast of this film is excellent, and the dialogue is funny, and sometimes brilliant, and often a lot more realistic than most comedies attempt to shoot for. Whenever I hear dialogue so good, I wish I could steal it and make it my own. that?s about as high as my stamp of approval gets. This script is wonderful, and I guarantee you you?ll laugh.
