Review of Knock Knock (2015) by Drago? C — 01 Nov 2015
Eli Roth succeeds with a movie for the first time in ages (ever?). Unfortunately at least in my case he succeeds at making me angry, not scared or in any way uncomfortable. The movie he builds is neither Hard Candy nor Funny Games although he tries, the poor thing, he tries.
Unfortunately, he puts out a flat, tone deaf, confusing mess with a 'message' (presented so poorly that it makes you root for the bad guy) but no substance whatsoever. And while the two female leads are believable if cringeworthy at times, Keanu, the main draw for me at least is just terrible.
And the denouement is just as tone deaf, just as campy, just as bad. Avoid.
