Review of Knight of Cups (2015) by Katv M — 26 Nov 2016
It is shot by Emmanuel Lubezki, so you already know that the cinematography is going to be pristine and immaculately framed. And that's pretty much it. "Knight of Cups" is one of the most disappointing and boring movies of the year.
I found it wildly self-indulgent, ponderous, and incredibly hollow. This is the definition of a white people problem movie, in which a self-pitying, wealthy white man suffers from some sort of existential crisis despite the fact it seems like he has a pretty content life.
Although it has its moments (the bits involving Cate Blanchett and Natalie Portman have some substance), ultimately I didn't care about any of the characters and I was just deeply frustrated by it.
Not very good.
