Review of Knight of Cups (2015) by Simon T — 27 Feb 2017
Infuriating but gorgeously photographed Terrence Malick indulgence. Little or no plot: just a sequence of improvised sequences centred on a detached screenwriter (Christian Bale) questioning his hedonistic lifestyle as he flirts with a series of beautiful women and wanders along beaches, through deserts, and into kitsch Las Vegas hotels.
Horrible banal voice-overs (which should have been jettisoned) and proof that Malick needs the discipline of a good script.
