Review of Knife in the Water (1962) by Niloo R — 31 Mar 2013
Really beautifully shot - the shot composition and framing in this film was absolutely stunning. it also presented an interesting dynamic in the form of a triangle relationship. can't say I completely understood what the film was about, I may need more viewings, but I found myself intrigued by the ending as well as the competitive dynamic between the two men.
not sure what the deal with the "knife" was, but it definitely symbolized something. I think what was striking about this film was the whole circular facade of living in the mundanity of the day to day life and the juxtaposition of the idealism of a youth with the cynicism of well-adjusted adults.
I think my biggest problem with the film was that it lacked action. I understand that it was trying to make a point and the "boringness" was an element, but it was just very difficult to watch at times.
I found myself not understanding much and then had a revelation dawn on me in the last five minutes. overall good film by a great filmmaker !
