Kit Kittredge: An American Girl.
Initial Reaction: Isn?t Kit a boy?s name?.
.
Main Characters.
Kit Kittredge: She?s a tween girl living in the Great Depression. She?s Played by Abigail Breslin..
Mrs. Kittredge: She?s Kitt?s mother played by Julia Ormond..
Will: He?s a homeless guy (aka a Hobo). He?s played by Max Thieriot..
Stirling Howard: He?s a kid who takes residence in Kit?s house. He?s played by Zach Mills.
.
Plot Summary.
This movie takes place during the Great Depression (what?s great about that depression?) Families are losing their jobs and their houses (sort of like what?s happening today; wondering about the timing of this release.).
No family?s safe from the Foreclosure sign, and it?s not long before Kit?s house is getting repossessed by the bank. Kit?s father (Played by Chris O?Donnel) goes off to find a job after he loses the one he has..
While the father?s away, mother is letting people move into her house if they pay rent so she can pay the bills. Highlighting this group are a bookmobile driver and a magician..
Meanwhile, Kit is trying to be a reporter for the paper in her town, but the editor wants something new and fresh. So, Kit goes out on a story with help of Stirling, to write the story about hobos..
There, she meets up with Will, and his buddy, County. They show Kit and Sterling what life as a hobo is like ? friendly people who work together when times get rough..
But when Kit reports back to the editor about the hobo story, he turns it down, saying nobody will read it..
To make matters worse for the hobos, a crime wave washes across the area, and they?re the ones that get the blame. Kit takes it upon herself to find the real culprits of the crime, especially when they take her family?s money..
.
SCORING.
Main Characters.
I like all four of them ? they show some real class and heart. Kit is one girl we can root for. SCORE: 9.
.
Supporting Cast.
Almost as good as the main group, but the thieves behind the crime wave are so stupid that I don?t believe they can pull of a heist. SCORE: 7.
.
Plot.
There are many great scenes that tell us what life was in the 1930?s, and how the Great Depression wrecked havoc with almost everyone who lived there..
But the ending of the film was too sugary sweet for me, and the climactic scenes were lacking. SCORE: 7.
.
Originality.
Now a days it?s very hard to find a family film with genuine heart; we get films with mean and nasty cast, or we get preaching, or we get a gross out gagfest. SCORE: 9.
.
Violence Factor.
There?s some tense moments when Kit and friends go after the thieves, but these thieves are such klutzes that our heroes weren?t in any real danger. SCORE: 7.
.
Other Moral Issues.
This film is about how friends and family can get through one of the toughest times in US history. The morals are handled very well. SCORE: 9.
.
Final Score (out of 60): 48 % Score: 80%.
Kit Kitredge is a hit; the first rate cast and magical scenes make it a great family film..
