Review of Kissing Jessica Stein (2002) by Candace W — 29 May 2009
*****SPOILERS*****.
I'd heard mixed reviews about this - one friend thought it was hilarious and fantastic, another thought it was OK but problematic. Not surprisingly, they were both right. There are some moments of serious hilarity, and there are aspects of the story that are very well done. But what's a romantic comedy without tired caricatures of women - here we've got the uber-picky neurotic and the free-spirited nympho - and an ending that reinforces the idea that that "finding yourself" and "loosening up" means getting with the guy who's been an asshole the whole time.
Fun, funny, and sometimes infuriating.
