As a commentary on Nuclear weapons this can look pretty hysterical, but looking at Robert Aldrich's contempt for Mike Hammer makes it a rewarding experience. Ralph Meeker captures Hammer's ignorant and brutish manner to a tee.
Creepy finale, too.
