Review of Kiss Kiss (Bang Bang) (2001) by Tracie C — 13 Mar 2011

Here we go ladies and gentlemen, one the best movies you've probably never seen. I'll first like to note, I'm happy as hell that Shane Black is directing Iron Man 3, best news since Joss Whedon directing The Avengers. Black is the man, he's wrote many great scripts that include Lethal Weapon, The Last Boyscout, and The Long Kiss Good Night. Now Shane has only directed one movie and that's the one I'm reviewing now. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is one of funniest action/film-noir/black comedies ever-plus it's easily Robert Downey Jr. best role. In 2005 this movie was totally overlooked but if it was released tomorrow, it would be a big hit-trust me. This was made 3 years before Jr. got huge and Black always seems to a huge step ahead of everyone.

Probably why he hasn't always had the best of luck from time to time. But it seems like he's gonna be back on top 2013, now for the one's that have never seen Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. It plays like a Taranino movie meets a Michael Mann movie. So if your a fan of either or even better both, this is movie is must. Harry Lockhart (Jr.) a petty criminal who amazingly gets caught up in Hollywood audition for a movie detective, all by accident mine you. He gets the part and then gets tormented by Val Kilmer, who plays a real private eye (A gay one at that). Harry ends up meeting an old flame (Michelle Monaghan) and Harry tries to convince her he's a real detective.

Now the narrative here is great since Robert Downey Jr., does a great voice over. I'm not always in favor of voice overs but here is absolutely done right, which is a big plus. The three leads here have great chemistry, that's what really makes this film work. I think I've explain enough about the story, I know I've didn't mention much. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a movie you should watch without alot given away. Plus it's not that big of film, alot you haven't seen it yet. So I'm tring to correct that, So if your a fan of great action films, dark humor, or the Leathal Weapon movies (mainly the first one) Kiss Kiss Bang Bang should please your action tastes buds.

They really don't make many films like this, and this one flew under the radar. Most fans like me, have been tring to get the word out there. I'm pretty sure amazon is selling the Blu Ray edition for $8/$9 plus shipping, that's one the best deals your gonna find. Your collection is end complete without it, mandatory viewing for action buffs. So Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is highly recommended by me, make sure to give it shot before Iron Man 3 comes along. It will prepare for the awesomeness, that is Shane Black. Hopefully Iron Man 3 will be the best in the frachise, that's where my expectations lie. Shane never seems to dissapoint me, thats why I can't wait.
