Kevin Smith's most daring movie, given the topic, ratchets the concept of religious satire with a mixture of vulgarity, laughs, and serious discussions about the difference about having flexible ideas as opposed to fixed beliefs. The influences and pop culture nods range from Star Wars, John Hughes, Through the Looking Glass, Milton's Paradise Lost, and of course the Bible.

With a cast like that, it's a winner, including George Carlin as Cardinal Glick, who wants to give Catholicism a new face.
