Review of Kinky Boots (2005) by Dawn K — 10 Aug 2010
It was cute, it could have definitely been better. I think that it had the potential to be a great comedy but I'm not sure if the director really made up his mind about what kind of movie he wanted to make.
The story was certainly intriguing especially since it's based on a true story. Nicely understated comedy/drama that does little to offend and manages to force a smile or two. Simple story with some elements of alienation that Mike Leigh would be proud of.
Family type fun with a message that doesn't entirely hit home. The cast look bored most of the time (or maybe just English). Not for homophobes or racists, but normal people might get a giggle. Lets face it sexy boots are sooooo bloody impractical, but to quote Lola .
.. "Sex isn't supposed to be comfortable!".
