Review of Kinky Boots (2005) by Alexander C — 02 Oct 2012
Why am I rating a 2006 movie? First off, I liked back it in the day. It was a small charming movie.
But, the real reason I am rating this scenario is that it is now a play. Today, October 3rd, was the second day of its run in Chicago. I believe it is getting set for a run on Broadway.
Guess what. Cyndi Lauper wrote the lyrics and music to this play. I went with a little trepidation. Does she know how to write music for Broadway? Is she past her prime? Well, she knocked it out of the park.
Before I forget, what is the play/movie about? Charlie Pride is a young guy who is a member of a shoe making family for 5 generations. There is only one problem - he doesn't want to make shoes. He moves to London to start his new destiny. Almost immediately he's forced to return and run the company. The company is in distress. Can he save it from Bankruptcy? They have been making traditional fine British shoes, which just aren't selling in a world of business casual. What can he do to revamp the company? Kinky boots?
If you live in Chicago, I recommend this play. Hurry. It is only here for a five week run.
