Review of Kinky Boots (2005) by David L — 28 Apr 2012
Sometimes a film will come along that is so totally random, it will capture your interest from start to finish - this was one of those moments. Following the death of his father, a man attempts to step Into his dads shoes by continuing the family footwear business, only to discover that the factory was about to be sold due to lack of business anyway! As a tribute to his father, and not wanting to concede defeat, the new manager tries desperately to seek new niche markets to invest into, and through a chance meeting with a local drag queen, the demand for womens shoes, strong enough to be worn by men, then becomes apparent.
At this time, the comedy begins to take centre stage as the newly crowned owner attempts to blend the new drag recruit into the workforce, with mixed reaction from his colleagues. It then becomes fairly predictable how the film will pan out but its originality makes it a highly amusing spectacle nevertheless! I thought this was a good british comedy which is able to provide the heart and 'sole' (get it?) of any weekends entertainment!
