Review of Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV (2016) by Kathleen W — 26 Aug 2016
*Warning Spoliers for Kingsglaive*.
Well done Square Enix. You did it. You finally made a "film". A very interesting Sci-Fi Political Drama with action moments and great set pieces.
This film has little pockets of fan service. Knights of The Round, Cerberus, Diamond Weapon and Ultros all make an appearance as well as a blink and you'll miss it Malboro Cartoon. However the Fan Service does not detract from this story which is thankfully self contained and does not rely on your knowledge of the franchise at all.
This was definitely made as a way to introduce non-fans to the Universe of Final Fantasy. Magic welding is given a proper non-mambojumbo explanation to help ease those not familiar into the realm.
The characters for the most part are specific to the movie which helps the story feel like a film and not "A Final Fantasy Animation".
Aaron Paul's Nix Ulrich has become an instant favourite of mine. He was a fully realised and compelling character with a back story and goals.
Well done again Square Enix.
Side Note: That Hajime Tabata cameo was hilarious.
