Review of Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV (2016) by Mike O — 06 Dec 2016
I was nervous to watch this movie upon seeing the 13% rating it has, but I am pleased I did. This movie is no masterpiece, as there is simply too much story to tell properly in such little time. So many "critic" reviews criticize this movie for a confusing and nonsensical plot, but this is a ridiculous point. Not once throughout the movie did I feel confused or lost. I questioned some actions, (namely the betrayals) but I was never confused by them. This movie is beautiful looking and tells a story that adds to the lore of FFXV in tremendous ways, and while it falls short at tugging our heartstrings due to the fast-paced nature of the story and the need to show a LOT, I still found myself caring for a few of the characters and feeling disappointed that I would not be seeing more of them in the game.
The critics truly missed the mark on this movie, each review feeling as if it came from someone who has never partook in gaming or anime storytelling. Even as a standalone film, it is a great watch and doesn't require knowledge from the games at all, though it helps to enhance the experience. All that is required to enjoy this movie is not being a snooty idiot and scoffing at the fantastical setting and characters.
