Review of Kingdom of the Spiders (1977) by Jonathan M — 24 Nov 2009
Hotel Guest: What is going on out there Sheriff?
Sheriff: I wish I knew but when we figure it out, I'll tell you. Right now, why don't you have a drink.
OK, so that isn't verbatim the exchange between these two people but why is in older, campy B-horror movies, is the solution always to have a drink to take on the problem? I love flicks like this because of the pure absurdity of them. And that isn't to say that this movie was that whacked out but it is close. I love William Shatner's character; the guy is hitting on and kissing by the second day the spider expert who has come to notify the town that there is a problem. This film is good in that they use real spiders for many of the scenes and I think that adds to the creepiness of it. And the end of the movie is the whole reason I watch it all the way through in the first place...good stuff. If you are bored, and are feeling goofy, grab this film and sit back and enjoy just watching and not criticizing.
