Review of King Solomon's Mines (1950) by Byron B — 06 May 2008
Take Cover! Here comes a stampede of every species in the Animal Kingdom - and we're trapped in the middle of it all! There were plenty of laughable and ridiculous moments in this movie, but overall it was enjoyable.
It was meant to be flashy and entertaining, and it was just that. The wildlife encounters were farfetched in their frequency, but surprisingly accurate in the character's (specifically Allan Quatermain's) understanding of nature.
There were some nice thematic elements woven into the film as well. If you like old movies with the occasional ridiculously unrealistic scenes, then this film is for you.
