Review of King of New York (1990) by Brandon D — 05 Aug 2007
I remember that I wanted to see this movie when I was a kid, but then forgot about and later, I dismissed it as another run of the mill gangster film. More and more, I started hearing some really good things about and I have just watched it for the first time.
It was actually very good. It was very much of the urban crime genre reminding me of exploitation films of the 1970s and 1980s. But with Christopher Walken there is this grandiose quality. When he delivers dialogue, and at the beginning of the movie especially, I noticed his delivery seems awkward and stilted, but I really think those moments give the film it's power.
Big surprise for me.
