Review of King of New York (1990) by Julia M — 22 Dec 2007
I've just seen this film for the first time.
First thing that struck me was how beautiful Christopher Walken was when he was younger. How did I miss him the first time around? He's rather camp too, seemed very flirtatious with his crew, I like that in a man.
After seeing the film the impression that remains is how alone Frank White is. And how doomed. Right from the start he has the air of someone moribund. Although there are loads of people around him he still seems very much alone. And the excuse his "friend" gave for not visiting him in prison was lame. I felt sorry for him, and yes, he died alone, with no-one to give comfort or help, though perhaps he got some from the Virgin on the dashboard.
I expect I shall be watching this again soon.
