Review of King of New York (1990) by Chris Z — 03 Dec 2009
Pretty rough around the edges and in terms of the pacing and story. I thought it was a little drawn out through the beginning, and then ended way too fast. The filmmaking was really impressive though, the cinematography was really neat, the lighting and color and stuff clearly had a lot of thought put into it.
And christopher walken was awesome. Definitely a guy movie though. The story kind of echoes scarface, but IMO this is a more interesting movie in terms of how it was made. Violent, obviously. But really the cinematography was really very impressive.
There were a lot of rather long shots, which were very artful. Some really beautiful shots which then would pan into a really amazing action scene, or car chase, etc. Very impressive. But as I said, the story was rough, and the editing and stuff wasn't super polished.
Impressive and excellent cast. I wanted this movie to be longer and more fully developed though.
