Review of King of New York (1990) by Enrique F — 02 Apr 2009
Style over substance. Christopher Walken saved this from being a complete write-off, and Laurence Fishburne gave it all he had, but it was a shallow story with epic pretensions. Essentially it has no point...there are several other gangster films with several times more dramatic weight.
So many scenes were overdrawn, particularly the ones with coked up topless girls dancing to early 90s rap. If you're looking for something new here, you won't find it - It's cops chasing a bad guy who wants power. And that's about it.
