Review of King of Kings (1961) by Katie A — 11 Sep 2008
Boring. An extremely political take on the story of Jesus, seemingly loosely based on Luke. Jesus is hardly a character in the film, and that's the only interesting part of it - it makes the story about what people think and guess and believe about Jesus, which is as it would have been. And when Jesus is actually on screen, he does seem rather realistic. Angry only when necessary, compassionate, and trying to tell people stuff.
Historically creative, they made up a bit too much about political figures, like Harrod, Pilate, and Barabas. Or even non-political figures, like Mary.
All in all, too long, and too much made up.
