Review of King of Kings (1961) by Rodney G — 03 Apr 2010

From an historical perspective fairly accurate and thus informative and interesting indeed. Don't look for great acting it isn't here, but on the other hand the mere details of the amazing story are enough to keep anyone with a modicum of 'curiosity' as to the 'ultimate truth' - if I may be so bold - interested. Orson Wells and his deep voice, who was in his prime on an interest scale - because of his ingenious radio prank (War of the Worlds) does a great job narrating.

Using Barabas as one of the central characters should draw those more secular in their knowledge - of the story of Jesus Christ - towards perhaps watching the rather lengthy epic. Although steps were taken to dramatize a story which many mistakenly would think uninteresting I still think the Robe is much more interesting. But then that one uses gimics too. However, because of the excellent narration by Orson Wells and the accurate details in regard to the historicity - this movie is well worth watching. The portrayal of John the Baptist and his denunciations of mankinds vileness is rousing.

Personally, I think that the story itself - straight from the Bible - should be enough to carry a movie about the most interesting, unique and without question - troubling, man and/or god in the history of the world. Today, Easter, I will watch both movies, and also the Robe if it is on television. In any case - it's an amazing and perhaps alarming story in any form.

The Jesus Movie, produced by Campus Crusade For Christ is the most accurate movie. It can also be seen 24 hours a day in over 1000 languages in most countries of the world - as long as they are fortunate enough to have access to a computer.
