Review of King of Devil's Island (2010) by Stacie B — 06 Jun 2011
All the young actors in this stark, sad film shine as their respective roles, especially the two young leads, the mysterious and rebellious newcomer and the stoic "headboy" about to be released.
It's not a terribly unique story; you've seen these type of films before. But the way these young actors, spurred on by stalwart performances by Skarsgard and Joner, move through all ranges of emotions in their struggle against each other and ultimately their oppressors in the backdrop of this harsh environ sucks you in and won't let go, not even after the credits roll.
I kept thinking about the final dramatic scene driving all the way home, how the most dire of circumstances will force people beyond what they ever thought they could handle, form the strongest bonds.
Great find!
