Review of King of Devil's Island (2010) by Adrian E — 19 May 2012
A very powerful, gruelling, bleak movie taste on a true story. Powerful performances by cast of boys. A sense of authenticity is brought about by a few video clips at the end of the movie of the real boys home where so much abuse was perpetrated.
The bleakness of the Norwegian winter landscape matches the wintry bleakness of the story. In the end, it's a story that is inspirational and moving. The violence is not overstated; the emotional trauma is more profound than any physical violence - as bad as that is.
It never fails to amaze me how bad the treatment of children has been over the years across countries and cultures. There is a lot that the human race has to answer for.
